Self-drive boat hire is what makes a sea fishing holiday at Havnnes so flexible. You fish where and when you like, at your own pace, in a boat built for Arctic conditions.
The Havnnes fleet
Havnnes runs a fleet of 12 Kværnø 19-foot aluminium boats. The hulls are robust and stable, and they handle the changing weather on the Lyngenfjord with ease, which makes them well suited to self-drive fishing.
What is included
Every boat comes equipped for a full day on the water:
Yamaha four-stroke outboard, 60 or 70 HP, with electric start
Garmin GPS chartplotter with integrated fishfinder
Steering console and rod holders
Two to three fuel tanks
Room for up to four anglers
Fuel and basic tackle are available in the on-site shop.
Do you need a boating licence?
Yes, for most visitors. Anyone born on or after 1 January 1980 must hold a valid boating licence to operate a boat with an engine over 25 HP, and the Havnnes boats are 60 to 70 HP. A Norwegian båtførerbevis or an equivalent recognised certificate is accepted, so bring your documentation. The rules are set out by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.
Safety on the fjord
The Garmin system shows real-time depth and marks fish below the boat, which makes the fishing straightforward even on a first visit. Wear your life jacket, check the forecast before you head out, and keep to the sheltered Rotsundet when the outer coast is rough.
Bringing your own boat
You are welcome to arrive by your own boat and use the guest harbour. For the fishing itself, the rental fleet is the simpler option: it is fully compliant with Norwegian rules and equipped for the grounds around Havnnes.
How to book
Boats are booked alongside your stay. Enquire about boat hire and book your accommodation, then read the guide to the best fishing marks to plan your days on the water.
